New Shooter Help
Cowboy Action Shooting is a shooting sport in which contestants compete with firearms typical of those used in the taming of the Old West (prior to 1900).
Firearms include a brace of single action revolvers (calibers .32 to .45), a lever action rifle (calibers .25 to .45) and a side by side double barrel shotgun (12, 16, or 20 gauge) or pre 1899 pump shotgun or lever action shotgun (12, 16, or 20 gauge).
The shooting competition is staged in a unique Old West style. Cowboy attire is required, which is anything from boots, jeans, and a western shirt to clothing that personifies a specific western or TV/movie character. You'll soon discover that part of the fun is the costume and of course, the alias. All Cowboy shooters have an alias that is associate with your character or your costume.
The best way to find out about this shooting discipline is to visit the Shortgrass Rangers on a regular match day.
